Many organizations in Europe and the US have been crippled by a ransomware attack dubbed “Petya”. The malicious software has spread through large firms leading to PCs and data being locked up and held for ransom. This is the second major ransomware crime in two months.  In early May, many organizations were infected by WannaCry.  Like WannaCry, Petya spreads rapidly through networks that use Microsoft Windows. The Petya attack is believed to have started in Ukraine with many Ukrainian organisations affected.  Crawford & Company’s cyber experts are already providing an incident response and assistance to organizations in Ukraine.
